How to accurately view free diving speed in the ATMOS App?

In the ATMOS App’s free diving log, the “Charts” feature offers detailed data visualization to help divers analyze and review their diving activities. Here’s an overview of the chart feature:

1.Data Display :

  • Dive Depth : Displays the depth changes during the diving process, helping divers understand the maximum depth and duration of each dive.
  • Water Temperature : Records and displays the changes in water temperature during diving, allowing divers to evaluate environmental conditions.
  • Diving Speed : Shows the speed of ascent and descent, helping divers monitor their diving speed for safety.
  • Diving Time : Detailed recording of total dive time and time spent at different depths.

2.Alert Features :

  • Depth Reminder : Provides alerts when the diver reaches a preset depth, ensuring awareness of the depth reached.
  • Time Reminder : Sends reminders based on preset time intervals to help manage dive time and prevent overexertion.

3.Interactive Charts :

  • Movable Vertical Axis : These vertical axis lines allow users to precisely select and view specific data points on the chart, facilitating detailed analysis. By clicking on the vertical axis, users can activate it for horizontal sliding. This feature enables users to examine data such as dive depth, temperature, speed, time, depth alerts, and time alerts. The vertical axis lines are positioned at both ends of the chart, providing a flexible interactive way to analyze diving data.

To accurately view speed :

  • Move the Vertical Axis : Click on the vertical axis to activate it, then slide horizontally to view different data points.
  • Calculation Method : Free diving speed is calculated by dividing the change in dive depth over a specific time period.
  • Avoiding Depth Cancellation : To ensure accurate calculation of free diving speed, it’s essential to move both vertical axis lines to the same side of the inflection point. This prevents the cancellation of depth changes during ascent and descent, which could otherwise lead to inaccurate speed calculations.

Chart Example:

  • Viewing descent rate : Please move both vertical axis lines to the left side of the inflection point. As shown in the chart below, the descent rate from 0.0 meters to 95.1 meters depth is 0.990 meters per second.
  • Viewing ascent rate : Please move both vertical axis lines to the right side of the inflection point. As shown in the chart below, the ascent rate from 95.4 meters to 0.0 meters depth is 0.995 meters per second.
  • Viewing partial descent rate : Please move both vertical axis lines to the left side of the inflection point and stop at the depth range you want to view. As shown in the chart below, the descent rate from 40.1 meters to 80.2 meters depth is 0.934 meters per second.

Incorrect way to view speed :

Leaving both vertical axis lines at the two ends of the inflection point will cause the depth difference between the two points to cancel each other out, making it impossible to accurately calculate the speed.

The charts in the ATMOS App’s free diving log provide a comprehensive and intuitive data analysis tool, helping divers enhance their diving skills and safety.
